Kylie Campbell - Ramsay Health Care

Thursday 20th March, 2025

Kylie Campbell has been Environmental Services Manager and Aboriginal Liaison Officer at Ramsay Health Care Australia since March 2017.

What's the best part about your job?

When you are a leader, you are privileged to be in a position where you can direct, shape, and focus people's potential to a specific result. When you are given the responsibility to lead, you are given an awesome opportunity to influence many people's lives positively: a responsibility you should never take for granted.

Humble leadership does not mean you think less of yourself. It means you think about yourself less and you think of your team more.

What is something about your job that not many people know about, and what would surprise other people about working in a private hospital?

There are many layers of cleaning, and cleaning in my opinion is an art form – not everybody can clean, you need to have a passion for it. It took me 31 years of experience in various cleaning industries to truly understand the principles and techniques of various cleaning.

Working in a private hospital is surprisingly interesting and not one day is the same.

What do you love about working in a private hospital?

Being motivated by meeting and exceeding the expectations of patients, visitors, and fellow team members of clinical and non-clinical.

Creating a workplace where people enjoy coming to work, given we spend 70 percent of our life at work.

What do you like to do outside of work and/or what is something your colleagues don't know about you?

I like to do a lot of charity work for the Indigenous communities and try to set an example that anything is possible given a strong mindset. Last year I was asked to design the Australian Shotokan Karate uniforms to honour First Nations people. I was able to source an 100 percent-owned Indigenous company to make the uniforms, giving back to First Nations business.

Then I was able to attend the World Karate Championships held in Hungary 2023 to watch my godson and goddaughter compete. Was such an experience!

What is the best piece of advice you've ever received?

From my karate instructor, the way of life for a person to live by practising karate:

  • Seek perfection of character
  • Be loyal
  • Endeavour effort
  • Respect others
  • Refrain from violent behaviour with self-control
