sportsmed’s Stepney HealthCare Hub in Adelaide has had a $3.5 million makeover.
The centre specialises in preventive care, treatment and rehabilitation for a range of conditions and injuries including bone, joint, muscle, ligament, tendon, nerve and arthritis pain.
sportsmed CEO, Alan Morrison, said he was delighted with the renovation.
“This was our original consulting suites, with 1,800 square metres of space, and we basically gutted the whole place and re-did all of the inside,” he said.
“The renovation was done in stages over a period of 10 months and we were operational during that whole time, so that was interesting.”
Mr Morrison added the staff had been “very patient” during the works.
“The staff are very pleased now it’s all done,” he said. “I’m not sure how pleased they were during the process, having to be moved around so much, but they did a great job of dealing with it.”
The makeover has provided more space, more natural light and according to Mr Morrison, it helps improve patient flow.
“This is a more comfortable consulting environment now,” he said.
“The rooms are larger and there’s more technology – for example, a patient’s x-rays will come up on the TV screen in the room and the surgeon will be able to show them what’s happening.
“It’s about moving away from that paper-based way of doing things to a more digital environment.”
The renovated space caters for all of sportsmed’s allied health staff and specialists, including orthopaedic surgeons, physiotherapists, podiatrists, exercise physiologists and others.
“We even have a gym now and an indoor running track,” Mr Morrison said.
“We’ve got a lot of new practices coming in to join the business at the moment, so it’s great timing having the redevelopment done.
“There’s a better integration of each of our services.
“You know, you used to have to see your doctor in one space, then your orthopaedic surgeon somewhere else, and your physio somewhere else again.
“Now, it’s all here and the process is quite seamless for our patients.
“The building itself is co-located next to the private orthopaedic hospital, so we’re all together on one site. It’s a one-stop shop for our patients.”
