People in Private: Theo Simos

Nurse Unit Manager at Greenslopes Private Hospital’s Emergency Centre, Theo Simos is a self-confessed foodie, loves shopping and used to submit her homework in Greek.

What do you love about your job? And why?
I love the people that I work with, they are a wonderful team who prove to be supportive, engaged and motivated, even in the challenging times. I am proud to be a leader within the Emergency team. I also feel I have an immensely supportive manager who supports positive change and fosters new ideas.

How long have you been working in your current role?
I started at Greenslopes Private Hospital as a graduate registered nurse and was offered a number of professional opportunities along the way – I have been in the nurse unit manager role for three years and at Greenslopes for nine years.

Do you have a favourite quote or phrase?
"Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life."

What is something interesting about you your colleagues don’t know?
I was tutored for a while in primary school because I didn’t understand English and most of my homework was submitted in Greek (oops), thankfully my English improved.

How do your friends describe you?
Expressive, loud, can be a bit obsessive-compulsive at times, laughs a lot.

What do you do in your spare time/any hobbies?
This is a cliché, but I do love to shop and I am a bit of a foodie (the eating part, not the cooking part).

What is something you want to achieve this year?
I have professional goals for the department that I would like to achieve, it’s still in the planning process.
