Epworth Eastern in Melbourne has opened a new oncology ward as part of a $162 million redevelopment.
The first patients have been admitted to the ward, which features 20 additional single beds, giving greater privacy and space.
The hospital's Executive General Manager, Kerry May, said the oncology team looked forward to offering a greater level of care.
“We have a proud history of delivering exceptional patient care and through the opening of our new oncology ward, this will continue,” Mrs May said.
“The ward will offer new levels of services and improve the experiences and outcomes for our patients.’’
The oncology ward cares for patients throughout their cancer treatment, providing ongoing management, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and palliative care. In 2021, there were 25,000 oncology treatments across the Epworth HealthCare group.
“The Epworth Eastern redevelopment team has worked closely with our oncology team, to ensure a smooth transition to this new ward,” Mrs May said.
Epworth Eastern also offers a wide range of specialist nursing and allied health support, such as a palliative care nurse, breast care nurse, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, dietitian services and pastoral care.
The redevelopment of the Box Hill facility was undertaken in partnership NorthWest Healthcare Properties REIT.
