Incoming CEO for Epworth ready to take on role

Epworth HealthCare’s incoming CEO is looking forward to joining the company at an exciting time for the group, he says.

Dr Lachlan Henderson was announced to replace the retiring Alan Kinkade late last month and will take up his new role in January.

“I am delighted to be joining Epworth HealthCare at such an exciting time for the Group. Epworth has a great brand and reputation well beyond Victoria and I look forward to playing my part in its future success. I will meet with Alan and the Executive team to ensure a smooth transition in the weeks ahead, prior to a permanent move to Melbourne in January," Dr Henderson said.

Dr Henderson, who trained as a General Practitioner, has more than 25 years’ experience in healthcare and will move from his role as CEO of St John of God Subiaco in Western Australia to take up the Victorian based job.

Epworth HealthCare Board President, Rod Fitzroy said Dr Henderson has broad health care experience.

“He has successfully run the largest and most complex region of the St John of God Health Care, with multi-site and multi-disciplinary responsibility, including more than 1,200 beds, around 4,500 staff and budgets exceeding $600 million,” Mr Fitzroy said.

Critical to Dr Henderson’s success has been his focus on quality patient care and staff satisfaction while enhancing the business and financial outcomes said Mr Fitzroy.

“Dr Henderson will work with Epworth as we further develop the future strategic journey and capitalise on recent major investments, including our new Epworth Geelong hospital, the completion of the Richmond Lee Wing and the refurbishment of Epworth Freemasons,” said Mr Fitzroy.

Australian Private Hospitals Association (APHA) CEO Mr Michael Roff said he looked forward to working with Dr Henderson.

“Epworth HealthCare has been a valued member of APHA for many years and we look forward to continuing that close relationship in years to come,” he said.
