People in Private: Leanne Mackinnon

0

National Capital Private, Director of Nursing Leanne Mackinnon loves life, from looking after patients and her staff to escaping on the back of a Harley Davidson in her free time.

What do you love about your job? And why?
So many things!
Firstly, I have been reminded throughout my nursing career, that whatever is happening outside the hospital really isn’t that important. As I walk in the door to work the priority is to support and care for someone that is going through so much more, that’s what is important.
Secondly, how privileged I am that patients/families and friends allow me to be part of their lives, allow me to provide care and support, at often a very vulnerable time for them.
Finally, how I can make a positive impact on someone every working day, be that a patient or a colleague

How long have you been working at the National Capital Private Hospital for?
18 nearly 19 years.

Do you have a favourite quote or phrase?
“Having a gerbera moment “ – I like to look at the positive side of life and see the best in people. My gerberas stand tall & don’t wilt, very often.

What’s something interesting about you that your colleagues don’t know?
I like Harley Davidson motorbikes, they will be very shocked!

How many Harley Davidson motorbikes do you have/have you had?
I just ride as a passenger, happy to be the one to take in the scenery!

Is there a certain stretch of road that you want to ride down on your motorbike? Or if you have done that already can you tell me a little about that trip?
Just completed a road trip Canberra to Noosa. It was an amazing trip, temperatures on the bike hit 42 degrees. Hope to do another trip soon, maybe Noosa to Daintree via Great Barrier Reef, and then Tasmania.

What do you do in your spare time/any hobbies?
Travel, dining out, socialising and any opportunities that come along.

How do your friends describe you?
The energiser bunny! Happy, kind hearted.

What is something you want to achieve this year?
To successfully balance dedication to my position as Director of Nursing, to ensure excellence in care and workforce happy here at National Capital and have an exciting social/personal life of adventures and taking up the opportunities that present.
