Duncan Hope has been stores manager at Gold Coast Private Hospital since 2014.
Originally from Manchester, England, he worked as a supply manager in the local hospital for 12 years before bringing his family to Australia to fulfil their dream of living on the Gold Coast.
What do you love about your job and why?
I love knowing that my team and I have contributed to the wellbeing and health of our patients.
Why did you decide to work at GCPH?
Well that’s a good question, as I think you need to be of special breed to work in healthcare – oh maybe that’s me! I saw an opportunity that I couldn’t resist, having worked in healthcare for 20 years.
Tell us something about you that your colleagues don’t know?
I’m pretty open and honest, so they know most things. I have swum with dolphins, I left the UK 11 years ago with two suitcases, and I’ve walked on a glacier – pretty cool!
What do you do in your spare time?
Eat, drink and be merry! Oh, and fishing.
What do you want to achieve this year?
I want to buy our own property, travel, and become an Aussie, mate!
What would you be doing if you weren’t working at GCPH?
Definitely fishing and travelling.
What do you like to bring to the team?
My team like me to bring them chocolate and to lead by example. I help them to believe in themselves, and give them the tools to achieve this.
Why do you think Gold Coast Private is a good place to work?
There are many awesome people who make working here a pleasure. Plus, we are in a prime location on the Gold Coast. #livingthedream
