Icon Cancer Care South Brisbane Site Manager, Angela Colrain loves her family day on Sunday, is a romantic at heart and strives towards ensuring patients receive the best care and outcomes.

What do you love about your job? And why?
Working with my team to help them become the best at what they do.  I have always believed that if you have happy and competent staff, then you will then have happy and safe patients. We continually work together to evaluate and improve what we do – ensuring the right people are doing the right jobs and have access to the right resources to do that job to the best of their ability.  It can be a constant challenge and learning experience, but I love it!

How long have you been working in your current role?
I have been the Site Manager of Icon Cancer Care at South Brisbane for one year.

Do you have a favourite quote or phrase?
Dr Mark Strom who is known for his work on influencing with integrity stated that “Position influences compliance. Character influences hearts and minds”.

I have always prided myself on authentic leadership so it is really important to me that my team knows who I am as a person and shares my vision for our site.  I am lucky to work with a team that wants to constantly improve and who strive to deliver exceptional care for our patients. I believe creating a trusting and honest culture means we are more likely to succeed, and that’s what we have here.

What is something interesting about you your colleagues don’t know?
That I love a good romance book.  I’m not quite at the Mills and Boon yet…. but I am a romantic at heart and enjoy a good read!

How do your friends describe you?
Hopefully friendly, approachable, not too serious and enjoys a good laugh.

What do you do in your spare time/any hobbies?
Mainly spend time with my husband and my three young children.  Sunday is family day which is when we go to the beach, park or any other event on in Brisbane.  I truly cherish this time.

What is something you want to achieve this year?
2016 was a big year for our team. We made some changes to ensure we continued to deliver the highest level of patient care. This year I want to build on that and support the team to deliver exceptional care to every patient, every time. If we can look back and know that every interaction was centred on achieving the best possible patient outcome, I will be very happy.
