Nominations open for 2015 HESTA Primary Health Care Awards

Recognising Australia’s standout primary healthcare professionals

If you know an outstanding primary healthcare professional in your local community, now’s the time to acknowledge their efforts by nominating them for the HESTA Primary Health Care Awards 2015.

Primary health care services are often the first port of call for Australians when sick or injured. The HESTA Primary Health Care Awards provide an opportunity to honour these dedicated professionals and highlight the importance of an effective primary health care system.

The awards recognise physiotherapists, dentists, pharmacists, therapists, GPs, natural therapy practitioners, rehabilitation professionals, health educators and medical practice managers.

HESTA CEO Debby Blakey is encouraging people to nominate an individual or a team that has made an outstanding contribution to improve health care in the community. “The Awards recognise the exceptional contribution made by primary health care professionals in the areas of health promotion, early intervention, treatment and better management of chronic illness,” Ms Blakey said.

So, if you know an outstanding individual or team working in this sector, nominate them for the Awards. Clinical and non-clinical staff are eligible and can be nominated by a member of the community, carers, colleagues or patients. Nominations are open until 31 August 2015. Learn more.

There are three Award categories:

The Young Leader Award recognises a dedicated health sector professional aged under 35 years who has demonstrated leadership and vision in patient care and service delivery
The Individual Distinction Award acknowledges an outstanding individual with a vision for the future of Australian primary health care, who has delivered positive outcomes in challenging circumstances with compassion and courage
The Team Excellence Award recognises a team that has used collaboration and innovation to deliver demonstrably better health outcomes for patients or the community
Awards sponsor ME Bank has generously provided a prize pool of $30,000 that will be shared among the winners in each of the three categories.

The winners of the Young Leader and Individual Distinction Award will each receive a $5,000 ME Bank EveryDay Transaction Account and a $5,000 education grant.  The Team Excellence Award winner will receive a $10,000 development grant to further implement their program or initiative.

Finalists will be announced in October with interstate finalists flown to Melbourne for the Awards dinner on Tuesday 10 November 2015, where the winners will be revealed.
