Medibank and Ramsay agree terms for Wollongong

Medibank Private and ahm members will be covered for treatment at the new Wollongong Private Hospital when it opens in January.

Discussions between Medibank and Ramsay Health Care, the hospital’s operator, had been ongoing for several months.

The prolonged negotiations caused locals to worry that they would not be able to access the hospital.

But those concerns were quelled this week when Medibank and Ramsay agreed to include Wollongong Private as a Medibank Members’ Choice provider.

“We will be very pleased to welcome Medibank and ahm members into our Wollongong Private Hospital in the new year,” Ramsay’s regional NSW hospitals operations manager Malcolm Passmore said.

“The new 151-bed hospital will offer a full range of medical, surgical and maternity services for people in the Illawarra, in a beautiful facility overlooking the Wollongong landscape and coastline.”

Medibank spokesman Dr Andrew Wilson added: ‘’Our members in Wollongong and the broader South Coast region will now be able to access the new hospital with confidence and certainty about their care.”

Wollongong Private Hospital is expected to begin operating from 18 January 2016.
