Less invasive surgery a benefit for women’s health

New surgery options are now available to women in the Toowoomba and Darling Downs region.

St Andrew’s Toowoomba Hospital patients who require hysterectomies or surgery because of conditions like endometriosis, now have access to a faster and more accurate surgery using robotics.

Robotic assisted surgery is less invasive as surgeons operate through very small incisions with accuracy and precision, compared with traditional methods that require a large incision.

Toowoomba Gynaecologist, Dr Brendan Miller said the surgery offers a number of advantages to patients.

“The benefits to patients using this technology includes less pain, faster recovery, reduced scarring and less risk of infection.

“I was very excited to be a part of the new robotic program at St Andrew’s, and to be able to offer my patient the best quality care available,” said Dr Miller.

St Andrew’s Toowoomba Hospital CEO, Ray Fairweather said in the past patients had to travel to Brisbane to access this type of surgery.

“This is another important milestone for the hospital, continuing to offer our local community the very best in patient care,” said Mr Fairweather.
