High air quality fighting against infections

An air conditioning system that fights against infections has been installed into a refurbished operating room in Bundaberg.

The Friendly Society Private Hospital (Friendlies) operating room features the laminar flow air-conditioning system, providing improved air quality that minimises the risk of patient infection.

The Friendlies Clinical Operations Manager Jackie Emery said the new system directs air flow around the room, which helps lower infection risk.

“The theatre is specifically for orthopaedic surgery. When there is a joint replacement happening there needs to be high air quality so patients are not at risk of infection,” said Ms Emery.

The theatre has been operating since mid July and Ms Emery said the feedback from patients, doctors, nurses and all those involved has been very positive.

“It’s very exciting and very fortunate to have the executive team’s support and also the Board are really looking at providing quality service to our community,” Ms Emery said.
