Since it opened in 1991, Liverpool Day Surgery’s motto “Your day is important to us” has been the key to its success.
Now, as it celebrates 25 years of service in Sydney’s south-west, Chief Executive Officer and founder Tony Geftakis says the focus remains very much on the patients.
“Our vision was to bring something unique to the area that would benefit the local community,” Mr Geftakis said.
“It was a big dream and we’ve seen it realised.”
When Mr Geftakis and his family set out to establish Liverpool Day Surgery, they wanted to form a dedicated medical team offering consistency and affordable first-class healthcare.
They succeeded. Twenty five years later, the surgery boasts 40 nursing staff, takes around 6,000 admissions each year and an estimated 100,000 procedures have been completed at the facility.
“We wanted [the surgery]to offer something different than what was currently available to patients and doctors,” Mr Geftakis said.
“We adopted a more holistic operational perspective which enabled us to form a highly specialised medical advisory committee made up of our doctors, nursing staff and management.
“This has ensured that we maintain the highest surgical standards as well as remaining at the forefront of a modern and up-to-date facility that can recognise and introduce new approaches and technology that will benefit our patients.”
The medical advisory committee consists of seven members, one of whom is Dr David Abi-Hanna.
Dr Abi-Hanna’s association with Liverpool Day Surgery goes back 16 years and he said the surgery’s focus on patient safety and comfort was why the community held it in such high regard.
“My experience there has been uniformly excellent. My patients have only had good things to say about their experience.
“The day surgery has state-of-the-art facilities, but has managed to maintain a level of patient care lost in many of the large facilities. Patients remain a prime focus and the consistently high patient satisfaction ratings attest to this," Dr Abi-Hanna said.
Liverpool Day Surgery works collaboratively with some of the region’s leading specialists to ensure it is providing the most up-to-date technology and the best care available.
