Anita Drever joined Kawana Private Hospital in early 2007, just months after it opened – and she loves it so much, she hopes to retire there.
The Sunshine Coast hospital is celebrating its 15th anniversary, having been built in 2006 to meet demand for specialised care for elective surgical patients
“Because it’s a smaller hospital you feel like you are having a real impact when it comes to patient care,” said Ms Drever, a registered nurse.
“You’re not just a number, we are able to make a real difference, and that’s one reason I’ve worked here so long.”
Ms Drever was in her mid-twenties when she started at Kawana Private Hospital, and now regards her colleagues as “like family”.
“I’ve been working here so long, they have supported me through so many stages of my life,” she said.
That caring team environment is reflected in the hospital's impact on the community, said CEO and Director of Nursing Lisa Clissold.
“Since opening 15 years ago Kawana Private Hospital has assisted many thousands of people and built an outstanding reputation for being a centre of excellence for healthcare services,” she said.
“This really comes down to the fact we pride ourselves on personalised care and we take a holistic approach to our patients' stay whether it be day only or an overnight stay.
“We often have visitors and potential employees comment on how welcoming it feels when they walk through our doors, and that is something we are very proud of.”
Part of the Cura Day Hospitals Group, which it joined in 2012, Kawana Private now has four operating theatres and offers a wide range of surgical services.
To mark its anniversary, the hospital staff celebrated on the official date of Saturday 27 October 2021 with a team lunch and cake.
“We thank the staff and doctors, both past and present, for where the facility is today and look forward to the next 15 years of providing care to the Sunshine Coast community and beyond,” Ms Clissold said.
